Homemade Everything Bagels

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar

For the Topping

  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp dried minced onion
  • 1 tbsp dried minced garlic
  • 1 tsp coarse salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add oil and warm water to form a stiff dough.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 pieces.
  6. Shape each piece into a bagel and let rest for 10 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  8. Boil water and sugar in a large pot. Boil each bagel for 1 minute per side.
  9. Combine the topping ingredients in a bowl.
  10. Dip each bagel into the topping mix and place on a baking sheet.
  11. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
